Volunteer IN PARKS & RECREATION

Our parks, programs and special events require a team of people working together to make it all happen. Part of that team are our volunteers and they are a vital part of our success! Volunteering is a rewarding use of time and can meet service requirements. It can also be a team building opportunity for businesses, clubs, youth groups and even families. Several volunteer opportunities exist in LaGrange Parks & Recreation. Here is a sample:

  • Event Helpers for Community Day, Muddy Hands Festival, Fall Festival, Festival of Lights Parade
    • Sample jobs include: costume characters, character escorts, greeters, set-up/breakdown, game attendants, parking attendants, arts & crafts assistants, grounds monitors/garbage/bathrooms, hike leaders, food/beverage service, ticket takers
  • Maintenance & Grounds
    • Sample jobs include: trail restoration work, park clean-up days, event support for heavy set-up/breakdown & parking, bonfire building & supervision, painting, staining, light maintenance work
  • Gardening
    • Planting & maintaining garden beds and pollinator gardens in parks, providing workshops at Muddy Hands Festival
  • Programs
    • Program leaders offering workshops or enrichment classes in special interest areas such as gardening, photography, travel, art, crafting, birding, composting, etc…
  • Skilled Trades
    • Specific projects for skilled tradespeople to support park goals and initiatives


Expectations of Volunteers

  • Follow park rules & regulations
  • Complete any required training and/or orientation programs
  • Be reliable, timely and fulfill all tasks and shifts
  • Be positive and courteous with park patrons, staff and fellow volunteers
  • Work in a safe manner
  • Always work as a team
  • Report all issues and concerns to supervisor
  • Smile and give your very best
