Freedom Park

Freedom Park is a 120 acre park and home to LaGrange Day Camp and Aquatic Programs This beautiful park offers a plethora of amenities including two pavilion rentals and trail system.

Stringham Park

Stringham Park is a 70 acre park and home to LaGrange Soccer Club and Arlington LaGrange Lacrosse Club. It boasts a .5 mile paved walkway around Keith’s Pond and a partially paved path around the park perimeter.

LaGrange Park

LaGrange Park is a 16.26 acre park and home to LaGrange Youth Baseball and Softball league.

Overlook Park

Overlook Park is a 47.91 acre park and home to Hudson Valley Admirals Football and Cheer. Overlook Pond hosts fishing and non-motor boating sports.

MacGhee Park

MacGhee Park is a 6.7 acre park located on the Southeastern edge of town.

LaGrange Trails

The Town of LaGrange has 6 trails for your hiking and walking pleasure.

As you may know if you've been following along, a delightful wooden gnome has found his way to Freedom Park through the generous donation of Recreation Advisory Board member, Paul Doherty. Perhaps you’ve seen him in his temporary spot near the playground. Before he makes his way to his forever home at One Whimsy Place on the Nature Play Trail, we asked for some creative gnome name ideas. We've collected all the names submitted through the office, Facebook and Instagram and narrowed it down to 3. Please help us choose by voting which name you like best in the comments below!

Voting ends at midnight on Monday, 10/14. The winning name will be revealed at our Fall Festival on Sunday, October 20th, 12-4pm at Freedom Park, where you can visit the gnome in his new home! Thanks for playing!!! 😍

Join us, along with the LaGrange Conservation Advisory Council, and Paul Doherty, Recreation Advisory Board Member, for this special hike/walk at Red Wing Recreation Area in LaGrangeville! Come for a pre-hike social with light refreshments at 6pm and the hike will begin PROMPTLY at 6:30pm from Paul's driveway on Velie Road. The hike follows the Red Wing Lake Trail to the Stream Trail, a 1.5 mile full loop. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, and dress according to weather conditions.

Attendance for this event is by REGISTRATION ONLY at www.lagrangeparksandrec.com. PARKING IS LIMITED and only cars registered for the event will be allowed in parking areas.

An email will be sent to all registrants prior to the event with parking instructions and meeting spot. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled; please watch our Facebook page for cancellation notice. Hike will begin promptly at 6:30pm.

Exciting news, folks! A delightful wooden gnome has found his way to Freedom Park through the generous donation of Recreation Advisory Board member, Paul Doherty. Perhaps you’ve seen him in his temporary spot near the playground. Before he makes his way to his forever home at One Whimsy Place on the Nature Play Trail, will you help us name him by commenting your suggestions below?

In Freedom Park, a treasure stands,
A wise little gnome with magical hands.
With a pointy red hat and boots shining black,
He’s ready for fun—there’s no holding back!

With a beard as white as fresh-fallen snow,
And blue pants that dance wherever he goes,
His green shirt's so vibrant, it makes the trees smile,
He’s here to bring joy and laughter a while!

His twinkling blue eyes sparkle and gleam,
This gnome is the heart of our whimsical dream.
So gather your thoughts, and take a spin,
What shall he be called? Let the naming begin!

At One Whimsy Place, that’s where he’ll stay,
Come visit our gnome, where nature meets play!
So comment below with a name that's your own,
As we welcome our gnome to his forever home!

It's National Play Outside Day! What is National Play Outside Day?

On the first Saturday of the month, everybody in the nation plays outside. This includes kids, parents, adults, families and grandparents. There are no scheduled events or activities, just go outside and do something fun with your friends and family. Mark it on the calendar for the rest of the year so you don't forget and make it a monthly tradition!

Why have people stopped playing outside?
😜There is a ton of cool stuff inside (video games, TV, computers, toys......).
😝It's different than when we were kids. Parents had to yell for kids to come in, now some parents have to yell to get kids to go outside.
🤪We get busy with the other things we need to do, and don't make it a priority.
🤨The news media has scared us about being outside.
😛It is up to parents to encourage and plan outdoor activities.

🌳Playing outside is a choice. It takes a little effort, like putting shoes on. But once you are outside, it's worth it.🌳

🌧️ Rainy Day Adventures 🌧️

Is the rain dampening your spirits? Let’s embrace it instead! Grab your rain boots and get ready for some splash-tastic fun outdoors. Here are a few fun activities to enjoy in those lovely puddles...

1. Boat Races
What You Need: Small, lightweight boats (made from leaves, corks, foil, or paper)
How to Play: Make your boats and race them across the puddles!

2. Puddle Jumping
What You Need: Just your rain boots (and maybe some friends)!
How to Play: See who can make the biggest splash! Set up some fun challenges, like jumping from one puddle to another or creating obstacle courses with your puddles.

3. Critter Hunt
What You Need: Small, lightweight boots.
How to Play: Explore your neighborhood or local park searching for critters that are likely to come out in the rain… frogs, worms, snails, insects, birds, etc.

* Safety First! Make sure to keep an eye out for any areas that may be unsafe due to heavy rain or flooding. *

Stuck inside or not feeling up to getting wet? Make a simple rain gauge together! What You’ll Need:
A clear plastic bottle or a jar
A ruler
Permanent marker or tape
Scissors

Instructions:
1. Prepare Your Container: If you’re using a plastic bottle, cut the top off and invert it into the bottom half to create a funnel. If you’re using a jar, just leave it as is!
2. Mark the Measurements: Use the ruler to measure and mark every inch on the side of your container with a permanent marker or tape. This will help you track the rainfall.
3. Place Your Rain Gauge: Set your rain gauge outside in an open area, away from trees or buildings that could obstruct the rain. You can use a small rock at the bottom to weigh it down if it’s windy.
4. Record the Rainfall: After the rain, check your gauge and measure how much rain collected. It’s a fun way to learn about weather patterns!
5. Discuss: Use this opportunity to talk about the water cycle, the importance of rain, and how weather affects our parks and community.

Spectacular fall foliage is expected to appear throughout the season this year! Week 2 of I ❤️ New York's Fall Foliage Report expects several areas of the Adirondacks to be at midpoint of change by the weekend if you're traveling up north. We remain in the very early stages here in the Hudson Valley but when our time comes... our parks EXPLODE with color and we can't wait!
