This annual event has quickly grown to be the largest and most anticipated in our area! Here’s what you can expect:

Our MAKERS MARKET during our Fall Festival is a growing success! Last year, the main pavilion was filled to the max with delicious homemade breads, honey, maple syrup, spices, cake pops and other baked goods, along with beautiful handmade pottery, soaps, home decor, candles, artwork, stationary, bird houses, ceramics, photography, wood art, knits, macrame and so much more. WE WANT YOU! Bring your handcrafted, handmade, home baked or home grown items to our beautiful pavilion at Freedom Park and share them with our crowd. The perfect time for the community to get a jump on holiday shopping… we encourage Fall as well as Holiday and general items! ***We are not accepting applications for food trucks or entertainment.***

Our next FREE Beach Bash & Movies On the Beach event featuring Wish (PG) is coming to Freedom Lake on Friday, August 2nd! Come early for some beach fun including a pre-movie party on the beach with a DJ, giveaways, games and more starting at 6:30pm! Then stay for showtime to enjoy Wish under the stars beginning at 8:30-45pm (actual start time depends on darkness). This is a non-swimming event. Bring your own chairs and/or blankets. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for this event, please see below...

Registration is currently open to LaGrange residents online at www.lagrangeparksandrec.com and opens to eligible non-residents* this Saturday, 7/27 at 9am. Registration closes 8/1 at midnight. Proof of residency for residents and eligible non-residents* through a property tax or utility bill is required to register if you have not already uploaded to your account for the 2024 season. ***A driver’s license is not proof of residency.***

In addition to household members, registrants are allowed up to 6 guests per household. It's Tuesday and we welcome FREEDOM PARK BOOK DRAGONS, formerly known as Freedom Park Bookworms, back to Freedom Park's small pavilion!

Join Ms. Jess as we partner with LaGrange Association Library for storytime and more at the Small Pavilion in Freedom Park on Tuesdays through August 27th. Ms. Jess, Youth Services Coordinator at LaGrange Association Library, has 20 years of Early Childhood experience and a BA in Early Childhood Education. She uses all that knowledge to create this spectacular program.

Littlest Dragons (ages birth-2.9 years) – 9:30-10am
A great introduction to the world of learning through songs, instruments, puppets, and a story.

Book Dragons (ages 3-12 years) – 10-11am
Book Dragons Assemble! Create music, art, and stories as well as read some great books. Each session will host a mirage of events, ranging from lightsaber training to hunting for Bigfoot to becoming a knight!

Sessions are drop-in, no registration required.

It's National Park & Recreation Professionals Day and we want to celebrate those dedicating their lives to community in the Town of LaGrange and honor the hardworking individuals who play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the community's recreational spaces and services. Those professionals, both full time and seasonal, who keep our parks green and beautiful, our waterfront safe, those who coordinate and administrator recreational programs, and everyone in between who ensures a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for all. Their efforts contribute significantly to the quality of life in LaGrange, fostering a sense of community, promoting healthy lifestyles, and providing spaces for relaxation and recreation. Catching fireflies can be a magical and educationa

Catching fireflies can be a magical and educational experience for kids, turning a simple summer evening into a memorable adventure. If you’re following our July Park & Recreation Month Activity Calendar, today’s activity is to catch fireflies! To start, plan your firefly hunt for just after sunset, when these bioluminescent insects are most active. Choose a safe outdoor location such as a park, backyard, or open field, where fireflies are commonly seen.

Equip your young adventurers with a few simple tools: a jar with a lid, a piece of cloth, and a flashlight, preferably with a red filter as it will help the kids see without scaring away their glowing friends. The jar should have small holes poked in the lid to allow air to circulate, ensuring the fireflies stay safe. Drape the piece of cloth over the jar's mouth to make it easier to catch and release the fireflies without harming them.

Encourage kids to be gentle and patient. Fireflies can be caught by carefully cupping hands around them or gently guiding them into the jar. Teach them to observe the fireflies up close, noting their glow and behavior. After a short period of observation, it's important to release the fireflies back into their natural habitat. This helps maintain their population and ensures they can continue to be enjoyed by others. By following these steps, kids can learn about nature, practice patience and gentleness, and create lasting memories!

Based on the current Accuweather forecast at 10am, there is an 80% chance of rain at 8pm and The National Weather Service has us under a flood watch at that time as well. We invite you to the Freedom Lake Kindness Rocks Garden… a Community Art Project for all. Join the Kindness Rocks Project and be part of this movement! We are turning our garden at the entrance to Freedom Lake near our concession stand into a beautiful and inspirational rock garden, and we need YOUR help to make it extra special. Please paint a rock, make it pretty, fun, inspirational… whatever strikes you as uplifting and artistic, to add to this garden project. Make sure you use proper art markers or paints for rocks and outdoor use, and then spray them with appropriate outdoor sealer or outdoor mod podge. Bring them in and place in the garden to add to the beauty and colorful fun! The project guidelines have always been that if you see something that you need for your own personal inspiration, you may take it, or pass something along to someone else in need. Just picture yourself seated on the beach on a late summer day, relaxing with your toes buried in the cool sand, a drink in hand, and not a worry in sight as you witness a breathtaking sunset. The radiant sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant hues of purple, pink, orange, and yellow. The light gradually fades, and time seems to slow with each breath you take. In this moment, you feel serene, free from worries, and immersed in a state of bliss and wonder. Your mind, body, and spirit feel lighter, shedding the burdens of the world as you bask in the beauty of the sunset.

We all pause in awe when we encounter a stunning sunset, captivated by its beauty. Surprisingly, studies have revealed that sunsets offer incredible mental and physical health benefits! Watching a sunset allows you to disconnect and fully embrace the present moment. It's akin to meditation, as it slows down your breathing, alters your perception of time, and fosters a greater appreciation for life. Witnessing the colorful spectacle of a sunset has been linked to a profound sense of spiritual connection, inspiration, gratitude, and an energy boost. Worries fade, and spirits are lifted, making life feel lighter and more positive in the presence of a beautiful sunset.

The universe puts on a glorious “free” show night after night! So we encourage you to set chairs out or stretch out a blanket tonight and watch the sunset. If you’re with someone, discuss what colors you see, how the temperature changes, how watching the sunset makes you feel. Take photographs of the sunset with your silhouettes and of your super tall shadows. And know you’re exactly… where you belong.
