Arbor Day is a special day dedicated to planting and celebrating trees, a vital part of our environment that provides us with air, shelter, and beauty. Here are some interesting tree facts:

Trees are the longest-living organisms on Earth and one of the planet's greatest natural resources. They keep our air supply clean, reduce noise pollution, improve water quality, help to prevent erosion, provide habitat and food for wildlife, and offer shade and cooling. Did you know a mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year?

Trees can communicate and defend themselves. Yes, for real! Through a network of fungi in the soil, trees can send nutrients to each other and even warn of impending dangers, such as insect attacks. This network is often referred to as the "Wood Wide Web." (That’s not a Dad joke!)

A single tree, over a 50-year lifespan, generates more than $30,000 in oxygen, recycles $35,000 worth of water, and removes $60,000 worth of air pollution. Planting a tree is a powerful act that can have a significant positive impact on the environment for generations to come. Engaging children in tree planting activities can instill a sense of responsibility and connection to the planet.

This Arbor Day, take the opportunity to learn and share these tree facts with your family. It's a wonderful chance to appreciate the incredible role that trees play in our lives and to contribute to a greener, healthier planet by planting new trees and caring for the ones we already have.

Experience the silent flight of the largest species of owl in the world. Feel the wind of the wings of a falcon at top speed. Watch in wonder at the hunting skills of a hawk. If you’ve never seen a Skyhunters In Flight raptor show, then we’ve got a special treat for you! Skyhunters In Flight is a dynamic educational program featuring wild trained birds of prey. Master Falconer Brian Bradley gives you an amazing close encounter with these apex predators. Learn just how important these beautiful birds are to our world during our Muddy Hands Festival on Saturday, May 4th, at Freedom Park. Show begins promptly at 3:00pm!

There will also be a Nutty Scientists Hudson Valley Castaway Show at 1:30pm, a catch and release fishing tank with the Federation of Dutchess County Fish & Game Clubs, Inc all day long, live music with Tilly Foster, food by The Dog House, and so much more!

Register today for Red Cross certified swim lessons for ages 3 and up in Freedom Lake! With an emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety, courses are available for a variety of ages and skill levels.

Register online at www.lagrangeparksandrec.com. Proof of residency is required every year for residents and eligible non-residents*. Upload your 2024 proof of residency (property tax or utility bill) and allow 48 hours for review.

We offer three 2 weeks sessions:
Session 1: 7/1-7/12 (lesson on 7/4)
Session 2: 7/15-7/26
Session 3: 7/29-8/9
Times vary by level.

With Freedom Lake Season Pass: $90 residents/$105 eligible non-residents*
No Freedom Lake Season Pass: $105/$120
Fees do not include lake usage before/after lessons.

We're excited to announce the Nutty Scientists Hudson Valley will be joining us at Muddy Hands Festival to present their exciting Castaway Show on Saturday, May 4th, at Freedom Park, promptly at 1:30! Help their Nutty Scientist who is lost on a desert island! Kids will help the lost scientist get food, water, and signal for rescue. Along the way they’ll fire rockets, make slime, shoot smoke rings, and see amazing electrical demonstrations with a Van De Graaff generator!

There will also be a @Skyhunters In Flight Raptor Show at 3:00pm, a catch and release fishing tank with the @Federation of Dutchess County Fish & Game Clubs, Inc all day long, live music with @Tilly Foster, and food by @The Dog House, plus so much more!

If you've purchased your 2024 Freedom Lake Season Pass and haven't yet picked up your key tags, they are NOW available for pick up in the Recreation Office, downstairs at LaGrange Town Hall, 120 Stringham Road, Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm. Please make every effort to pick up key tags before the lake opens for weekends on Saturday, 5/25. Help us help you by shortening your wait at the lake!

If you have had a tag in prior seasons, your tag was reactivated following purchase of your 2024 season pass. You will NOT receive a new key tag. Lost key tag fee is $5 per key tag. Replacement tags must be purchased through the Recreation Office.

This hike is for ages 10+. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, and dress according to weather conditions.

Participants will meet at LaGrange Town Hall and receive road assignments as well as bags, vests, and pickers to be returned by noon at Town Hall where LaGrange, NY Sunrise Rotary will provide hot dogs, chips, and water.

LaGrange Basketball Camp is open to LaGrange resid

LaGrange Basketball Camp is open to LaGrange residents NOW and opens to eligible non-residents* tomorrow, 4/16, 9am, at www.lagrangeparksandrec.com!

Head Coach Don Markoe leads individualized instruction, competitions, and games during this outdoor camp at the Stringham Park basketball courts. Campers will receive a camp t-shirt! Registration is limited for each session so don't wait to register your baller for some fun on the court! Find out more at www.lagrangeny.gov/parks-rec under "Things To Do" in the main menu.
